Home Improvement

We finished almost all the green painting for our kitchen today. It looks so bright and cheery, even with the lights off. Its pretty cool.

P and I went to some coworkers housewarming. They're renting a house that is smaller then ours for the same amount we pay monthly on mortage. But if you consider that they'd probably spend the same on the same size apartment, they're still getting a steal of a deal. They painted their main living area this lavenderly color that looks really great. J's bedroom and their indain style sitting room are both a rich red color. It looks awesome. They seem very happy. We invited many people to our own housewarming party, which should be a blast.

Okay. Annoying home improvement story.

We wanted to install a kitty door in the door to our garage so the litter box can be out there and the cats can go in and out as they wish. So we called LOWES and asked them if we bought a cat door, would they cut a hole in the door for us. THey said "sure" so we unscrewed this door and hauled it out to the car and strapped it in. This is one heavy door. It must way 50-70 lbs. We weighed the chunk we got out of it, and it was two pounds. For 5 by 8 inches of the door. So we get there, and ask them again and they say "No, we can't do that." And I turn from my normal, laid back mode into assertive bomber mode. (less then 5 seconds.)

ME "Oh? The person we talked to on the phone said you could."

THEM "Uhh, we don't have the tools."

ME "Don't you sale the tools? You have a display area right there. I've seen you cut wood for people in the parking lot."

THEM "We can't do it. The only saw we can use is mounted on the wall and can only cut up or down. Right beside us is a place to rent tools."

ME "Someone on the phone said you could. I certainly hope that you'd be able to find out who told us that and correct them so it doesn't happen again. Because I am VERY UPSET" (In most retail establishment, very upset means get the manager... apperently LOWES does not work on this general retail rule)

THEM "You can buy the saw you need or rent one next door."

ME "That's just fine." We walk off.

Sooo, we go to the rental place, the guy doesn't know what a jigsaw is, or if he has one. No, we can't just use it in the parking lot even though there is said door hanging out the back of our car. Its 35 dollars, plus we have to buy the saw blades. We go back into LOWES and price a jigsaw. Its 40 dollars, with three blades included. We are now the owners of one yellow jigsaw.

We get the door home, and back on the frame, but while we're putting the hinges back on the top one gives about a quarter of an inch because of the weight of the door. Now we have to lift the door to open or close it because it doesn't set right in the frame. We had to reinstall the door before cutting the hole in it. So if LOWES were on top of their game, we would not need to have spent a whole day trying to fix the problem they created. We'd just have a normally working door complete with kitty door.
